Windows on two sides provide natural illumination, along with views of the changing seasons. The well-equipped kitchen has plenty of counter space and even boasts a small pantry. A raised eating bar, long enough for four stools, marks the boundary, yet leaves the space visually open to the living room. A totally enclosed master suite fills one side, while the partially open kitchen is on the other. Beneath the large loft covering the rear, a centrally located wood stove radiates enough heat to warm the entire space. Windows are stacked three high in a front section open to the underside of the A-frame roof. The metal roof, too, is noted for its long life and ease of care.Īt center is a naturally bright living room, V-shaped and vaulted. Based on a recommendation from Steve and a package we received from the Honest Abe dealer, Darlene Dawson of “Bear’s Den Log Homes”, we contacted Darlene. We were looking at a number of log home companies, including Honest Abe Log Homes. We located a home builder, Steve Wallin of “Custom Homes of Asheville”. We then started to get excited and serious about building a vacation log home in the mountains. Well, our mailbox started to receive information from a number of log home companies. Not knowing much about log homes, I asked for information from the Log Homes Council. As we started to look into the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina (similar to the Catskills) we found a beautiful mountain community in western North Carolina.
